I live in Minneapolis. We had 2 mass shootings in 24 hrs, but only one of the mass shootings seems to matter. There have been 286 mass shootings and more than 850 children killed by guns in the usa, and It’s not even September. That is what is in front of me.

The murderer of the school children in Minneapolis was radicalized online by Russia. And of course, the murderer could buy military level guns legally. But talking about online radicalization and access to assault rifles are off limits and cannot be written about. So let’s blame the victims (friends and family of the murderer) for not stopping the murderer by “making” him get mental health care.

Even if the friends and family did get care for the murderer- the most he would have kept in a facility is 3 days.

The real issues are russian radicalization of usa white men, and legal access to assault weapons.

Yeah, news burnout is a real thing. I can attest to that. I do tune in a couple of times a day just to attempt to keep up a little bit. I read the headlines (skip over most of them) and maybe, just maybe, read one or two, or listen a YouTube news channel (I haven't watched cable news for years).

Then, depending on what I find, I might try to circumvent something that might have an affect on my household.

I think ultimately, that's the best thing for my mental health. I know I can only take Trump news in small doses anymore. The same for Palestine or Ukraine. It's not that I don't care anymore, it's that I can only handle so much. The bottom line is that I need to look to taking care of my family first, everything else is secondary.

I'm already terrified of JD Vance taking over. He and his friends are pure evil. The US is well on its way to a fascist state and we are tamely following along in Europe with our weak genocide supporting centre right governments soon to be over taken by the far right (for some that has already happened). JD has been totally corrupted and soon he'll be in charge of the greatest military power the world has ever known.

Yep, seems like we're already a fascist state. It just hasn't sunk in for most people yet.

It’s exactly as you say- the dangling of trump’s latest evil act is a distraction and a way to wear us all down. I’m much more concerned with the thiels of this world working behind the scenes and the depth of Russian, AI tech and Israeli influences…

I’m just trying to financially survive, speak up and participate as I can, and make plans to move near family and build in some resiliency measures for them. And try to teach my grandson skills that will serve his life and heart.

May we all be nourished in every way to serve our loved ones and humanity best- however that may look for anyone

Yep, and once you understand that they're building massive data centers and compiling massive databases while building massive robot armies to preside over the collapse, it sorta trumps everything else.

Thank you. I’ve been feeling this for many months. I do resent these talking heads telling me how I need to react to the latest outrage.

I did even care about the supposed trump death. He is just a talking head . Like you mentioned, the real power brokers are not being talked about.

I’ve chosen to back away from the crazy news cycle, my main concern is my wellbeing and my families well being

I'm pretty much on the same page. I want big stories about the big picture. I don't need every detail of what Trump is doing. I already know what he's doing.

How is it possible that you keep (forgive the expression) trumping yourself with brilliant writings every 👏🏻 single 👏🏻 time I build enough strength to read a bit of social media?

Every-damn-word, Jessica.🔥

Thank you for always saying the quiet part out LOUD while the rest of the media/writers are stuck on loop mode. It’s like you read my mind! And gawd it’s so oddly satisfying!

Waiting for Trump to die is the political version of refreshing Netflix, hoping the next season fixes the plot. Spoiler: it won’t. The writers already cashed the check, the billionaires already got the syndication rights.

Dictators don’t end when their arteries clog. They end when people stop outsourcing their outrage and actually start building something that lasts longer than a news cycle.

Blessed be the ones who quit waiting for the obituary and start showing up for their neighbors.

Sorry to say but I have decided to opt out of the news cycle in the Anglosphere. One thing I will give Trump credit for is: he is a master at using the media to get into everyone's head, but I've had enough. I cancelled my subscription to the NY Times and I am going to do the same for my The Guardian subscription. It's like going to a party where there are a couple of people shouting into their megaphones, drowning out all other conversations. Fortunately, I can have a sense of what's happening globally, but I choose to follow the news through a French and Brazilian Portuguese filter.

Don't be sorry on my account. I agree the NYT has become an utter rag over the last five years. Same with most outlets.

Self care is important as an activist. Without it you just become a burden on your surroundings. Do what you can, so long as you don’t lose sight of your true beliefs.

Thanks for saying it, from one tired, sad, Gen-X democratic committee member, who cannot imagine how to change what she sees as the future her Gen Z daughters are marching toward 😒I only tell the fam that I’d have them shoot me before going to one of their

jails
