Thank you for deciding to stay the course...as it were. I think those of us here who are also staying value your writing very much. Fact: you have to do what's best for you. If this is the best way, fine. If there's another angle you want, equally fine. With your last post I didn't know what to say...now I can say that I'm looking forward to what you'll do.

BTW, I did sign up for Splatter (I'm not much of a writer but I support a few...). If there's a refund, you'll get it back. If not, keep going!

I appreciate what you are putting out there.

I have tried to get my writing out there and it's a grind. So I really get what you mean.

I am grateful that you have included all of us in your journey of despair and repair.

I realized this morning, as I was folding a peace crane for you and your family, that what I most appreciate about your writing is that you are REAL. You are writing the truth of what you are perceiving and thinking and feeling and wondering. This serves to make me feel less crazy in this mad mad world and to validate my evolving human responses as I struggle to live authentically. Mahalo!

Jessica, I don’t think you’re wrong that Substack is shaping for a certain type of writing, but I wonder if it’s less about “your audience isn’t here” and more about what part of you you’re letting people see here. Splattered feels like it belongs in this space. It’s raw, reflective, personal. That’s the stuff people share, talk about, and engage with in Notes.

The more investigative, intel-style stuff? That is proving to be a harder sell on Substack unless you already have a network who comes here specifically for that. Moving The Sentinel-Intelligence to Ghost makes sense if you want to control the container, but I wouldn’t underestimate how much of an audience there still is for your deeper dives if you keep pointing us to them from here.

Feels like you’ve found the sweet spot: keep the creative storytelling here where discovery works in your favor, and let Ghost be the home base for the other side of your work.

Yep, that's the plan. I'm thinking about just migrating everyone over here to Splattered. That way, nobody gets lost and anyone who doesn't want to follow me can just unsubscribe, like they always could. I agree, all other things aside, this place wants the kind of posts like the one about running.

Hi, Jessica, thank you for sharing this very personal piece. Its beautiful. I wanted to make sure I understand. So the sentinel intelligence writings will now be on Ghost, which does not have a pay wall, but a possible yearly donation/subscription at different suggested donations. And the substack will now be on the more writerly theme, and we can continue our subscription there if we like? I would like to support you, and am a writer and love reading good writing, but am saving my limited time for reading prepper/future stuff. I'm wondering if it makes sense to switch my subscription to the sentinel Ghost writing (it may take a bit as I won't do it til I know i have the bandwidth to pay that subscription in the moment to ensure it gets done). I just want to confirm that I understood that right, and also confirm that I'll get a notification in my emails when there's a new Ghost piece published, like we have for substack? Thank you ❤️.

Yeah, that's the plan. Splattered will carry on here on Substack, and it's going to focus more on creativity, mental health, etc, from my candid perspective. The Senintel-Intelligence is going to live exclusively on Ghost, and it's going to focus on public health, prepping, the climate crisis, and the threat of fascism. I think it would make sense to let your subscription run out here and move over to Ghost. I'm going to keep the paywall down over there too for at least a few weeks until the transition is done.

This goes back to what we talked about in your last article about this. I'm not much on reading about peoples personal lives but I will go take a look at this Splatter just because I'm curious. Meanwhile, keep sending me the Sentinel Intelligence and all will be good. Now I have even more reason to start looking for a better platform. It seems Substack may be whimping out in fear of Trump and his anti-free speech troops.

I just wanted to tell you that I love your work and feel your pain. The market has just taken a very depressing turn and it sucks to some extent on most days. Like you, I’m hanging in there, but it’s hard to keep doing that when you don’t see the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel.

That said, I think you’re brilliant. I’ve also noticed that the “keep going, you’re almost there” kind of messaging keeps showing up for me, so let me share with you as well. Trust your instincts and take a breath. I have no doubt that you’ll find your way, and I’m happy to follow. ❤️

I’m confused. Will you still be posting things here on Substacks until subscriptions run out? What is it about your posts that “doesn’t work” for Substack?

To summarize what I said in the article: If you want to keep reading The Sentinel-Intelligence, go here: https://www.the-sentinel-intelligence.net/

The paywall is down. If you paid a subscription here at Substack, you’ve supported my work and you will be able to access this publication regardless of where it’s hosted.

I’ve explained why this publication isn’t growing in other posts. I don’t want to keep dwelling on that.

What happens to our subscriptions to SI here on Substack, Jessica?

Expand full comment
Jessica's avatar

I'm working through options. For now, I'm going to turn off autorenew at Substack and keep my paywall down over at Ghost. At worst, your subscription here will just run out. If I can actually find a way to migrate subscriptions, I'll do that. Export/import tools are supposed to make that possible, but I can never get the Stripe IDs from Substack. I'm going to move slow so hopefully nobody falls through the cracks.

I want to make sure I support you with a subscription, and I am confused as to where this is best to do? I used to use Substack and you refunded me. Do I do so on sentinel.net?

Not quite clear on what the problem is with Substack. Is it swatting at you behind the scenes because you’re “too negative”?
