Almost forgot: Get your flu shot! More and more studies are confirming something we talked about here last year, that exposure to H1N1 could offer decent protection against severe H5N1.

Wondering. Were they able to keep that flock of 400 infected Ostriches?

The people who swore bird flu wasn’t airborne are cut from the same cloth as every official who ever told the public “there’s no cause for concern” while the danger was already in the air. Different crisis. Same playbook. Control the narrative, protect the powerful, and pretend the threat isn’t real.

They do not mind if you get sick. They mind if you stop trusting them. Keep your eyes open, your mask on, and your heart free from the illusion that they will ever warn you in time.

Every bacteria, virus, germ, microbes, microscopic insects, is/are “airborne”. Feces is airborne. Everything that can float on other things in the air is by definition airborne.

Of course all flus are airborne.

I won’t share as no one will listen to anything I say since they are alive and didn’t die from sarscov2. Even people with stage 4b lung cancer won’t wear a mask. My 83 year old friend won’t wear a mask. I am the last of the last of the people I know who wears a n95.

People will die in the streets before Americans will

Even consider wearing a mask. Meanwhile, I am going to stock up on masks cause this winter may be pretty terrible.

We have no birds. It’s so quiet. No cardinals or blue joys, condors, all gone.

I miss the birds, too. West Nile took out a few species in my area in the 90s and now H5N1 is finishing them off. I miss the crows most of all. Another story for the gkids.

You mean the crows have died off, or just left your area?

More than just crows. All of them. Maybe you’re lucky to see 2-3 in a day. No chirping it’s silent and you see just one it’s surreal. They had/have highly pathogenic bird flu and am sure it will mutate and infect more people.

Crows were wiped out. Did not return. Blue jays, cardinals, and chickadee populations slowly returned but lower numbers than before. In the last couple years numbers have tanked again thanks to the H5N1. Btw, I've lived on this acre in the Midwest for over 40 years.

It’s unsettling how often history seems to be repeating itself here. Staying vigilant and prepared feels less like paranoia and more like common sense at this point.

Is anyone here vegan ?

Do you think crowding sentient beings into monocultures might be an issue ?

Do you also think breeding these sentient beings by the billions each year and deforesting over 40% of the earth's natural habitat to keep these sentient beings, and grow their crops to feed them might be an issue ?

So, If you're concerned about the next pandemic, then you'd be stop eating animal products and encourage others as well.

Thinkin that might pose its own set of challenges since a rather large population of the world already faces starvation.

You may not fully understand the agricultural system?

Wealthier countries divert grain crops from poorer countries for livestock. So people in poorer countries starve.

Over half the world's crops are grown to feed livestock.

Can you imagine if those crops were instead used to feed humans. We'd be able to feed all humans and let nature reclaim nearly 40% of the earth.

Methane emissions from ruminants would plummet, and emissions from fossil fuels would be drawn down by growing vegetation, the planet would start to heal.

Vegan may be a handy label however the agricultural system has a deeper issue which is rooted in industrialisation of natural processes. This industrialisation by its standardisation, conformity and concentration on economic efficiency predisposes organisms to concentrations of pathogens which then act as reservoirs of infection. In short, it isn't just about what you do or don't eat it is a systemic societal issue.

With respect that's all just words with no real solid meaning, I need examples to understand what you mean.

I fail to understand how crowding any living beings together in huge numbers in their own filth for weeks/months on end shouldn't pose problems?

Reducing biodiversity by clearing huge areas of natural habitat for grazing and growing huge monoculture crops with pesticides/herbicides shouldn't pose problems?

Reducing the immunity of huge numbers of sentient beings by pumping them full of antibiotics and other crap shouldn't pose problrms?

Animal Agriculture causing most water pollution and ocean dead zones shouldn't pose problems?

This stuff isn't ideology (vegan) it's our only chance at regenerating ecosystems, reducing the risk of pandemics and survival as a species.

Do you know if the regular flu shot will give any protection against Bird flu?

I wasn't disagreeing with.you! You have just explained, in more words, what my point was, thank you for adding clarity. My only slight divergence from what you are saying is that to restrict the solution to veganism will not address the deeper issues that lie behind the horrific consequences of industrial.agriculture. I am a small farmer with my hands in the soil surrounded by my neighbours who have crop monoculture and degrading soil and no livestock so I know the problem is wider. Perhaps here is not the place to debate, best wishes.
