Just listened to Chris Hedges’ interview of George Monbiot on the history of neoliberalism. It’s 100% connected to this topic and worth watching. The bottom line is elites have created an all-encompassing system we cannot name and called it “the way things are,” when it’s actually destructive theft that leaves us broken while making them richer. https://open.substack.com/pub/chrishedges/p/the-secret-history-of-neoliberalism?r=3pc89&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

I sat in on an interim committee meeting for a bill in my state that would prohibit medical providers from discriminating against people who need medical procedures that could affect their fertility as long as the people sign an informed consent waiver they should not be denied based on gender, age, or family status.

This is the second time this state rep accused of being “New Hampshire’s AOC” (Ellen Read, she’s awesome) has tried to get this passed.

You may or may not be surprised to hear that one of the biggest supporters was a man, a “Liberty Republican”.

We got the most push back from a democrat, A WOMAN, named Lucy Webber. I swear she would have voted to kill the bill if there hadn’t been a film crew there with cameras pointed at her.

F voting blue no matter who, And today I actually saw in real life the saying that “if you go far enough left you end up on the right.” except that it seems this man went so far right he ended up left?

Either way, I AM SHOOK. I’m not sure how to process that this Republican man showed up in a bright yellow tie and bright yellow shoes to show support and a woman who is a democrat tried to silence us.

I Dem-exited in 2016 and haven't looked back. Voted for a few local/state level Dems the last 2 elections, but this time around every human with a conscience was soundly trounced in the primaries. At this point, for me, voting is a personal exercise of declaring my moral values, but I have no illusions that my vote makes one bit of difference in how I will be governed. The candidates are chosen by corporations & the bills are written by "think tanks" (Monbiot calls them "junk tanks"). If anyone tries to run from a position of compassion or true recognition of what's going on (especially vis-a-vis health care and the military), they will be destroyed by their own party.

I vote Green, but I understand that people are far too immersed in "the way things are" to see a possibility beyond the uniparty. I don't try to talk people out of their religious views either.

I wanted to vote for socialism, on my ballot we have the green party and some libertarian, the state rep who sponsored the bill is now an independent I think. She was elected as a dem but the ones here sabotage everything she tries to do, that they claim they support.

I think that’s why they’re so mad about social media, we can talk about what they do instead of only hearing what they say they want to do.

I just wanted to drop a link to the Boston Public School ventilation tracker.

Some of the schools allow you to drill down to individual classrooms and then you can look at the log of the air quality all day and night. Some of the other schools don’t provide that level of detail.

But why couldn’t everyone have this?

Hi Jessica, it’s Rebecca - we met on Medium over 4 years ago. I love your work and will definitely be taking out a subscription. I agree with your points about how challenging it is out here as a writer. So happy you’re back on Substack. 🙌🏾
