Black women are not allowed to be angry…if we are, then we are labeled “the angry Black woman.”
On another note, the white men in power are not “the elite.” They are simply - money hoarders. They are mediocre white men who hoard money. Steal from the us, the people who have to sell our lives away to feed and house ourselves.
“The elite” don’t exist. They are simply mediocre white men who hoard money, do exist. Elon, bill, mark, Jeff, and many others…
They want us all to die…but when we do, their hoards of money will be worthless….but they are all too mediocre to understand that their wealth depends on our belief that the ones and zeros have value…we can’t believe anything, when we are dead…
The anger in the air is palpable. Each day we are bombarded with ever-worsening news about the depravity that is threatening to eliminate our personal worth and wealth. We the people, the masses are being rendered meaningless and disposable, by a sick and twisted regime of Dark Enlightenment billionaires, fake Christian wing nuts and a gold leaf false prophet president, who collectively wish to hasten societies collapse. This strangely united trinity, coalesce in their belief that the public is meant to unquestionably serve their masters or be starved into acquiescence.
They are eagerly anticipating our reaction to turn to violent rioting, so they can enact emergency measures to further subdue our freedoms, but we need to be more calculating. Massive peaceful protests are great. I commend those who have participated, and encourage those who haven't to do so. But I believe the next step, while we are still able to somewhat control our fury, must be nationwide general strikes. If their ears don't hear our voices of dissent, their wallets might. I won't hypothesize beyond that, because I don't want to imagine what we are truly capable of, if they continue to back us into a corner with nothing to lose.
I am supremely pissed off and the pressure is building day by day. This article tripped something in me. I’ve been practicing a detached bemusement at our species because it’s the only way I can hold myself in check.
It’s time to use my anger. And a global general strike sounds like the right move. Maybe I can start small in St Paul, Minnesota. And maybe we can get this thing to spread.
I agree wholeheartedly John. It will be hard to get people to take the needed step and participate in a strike. I think our strength is in numbers, so there needs to be an organized approach. I’ve reached out to several pundits and politicians, but none seem brave enough to broach the subject out loud.
There are protests planned by vets on June 6th I believe and huge demonstrations on June 14th, which is Trump’s 79th birthday. If after these events, the media and the Republican regime are still in denial about how seriously pissed off we are, then that is the time to enact strikes. I would hope Indivisible and 50501 will lead the efforts to prompt unions etc to get on board and shut the country down. Stock up on your essentials. Thanks for your opinion.
Anger is also the first emotion we often experience before we take compassionate action. People think compassion is “soft” “nice”, but it’s often intense, takes enormous courage, and born of anger. If we witness someone hurting someone on the street (e.g., George Floyd), our anger might prompt us into action (ie, videotaping to document the moral injustice in front of us). Or when we feel anger when we are disrespected, disregarded or mistreated by an abusive angry, hateful person, anger will arise in healthier minds because we are handed the gift of the emotion of anger to prompt us into action out of self respect. We need to do the work to strengthen the response muscle in our minds to respond to anger in effective ways because it’s such a powerful emotion.
Wow! I really needed your words today. I've been constantly tamping down my feelings (especially anger) about what's going on in the world. I'm struggling to cope with everything and keep my sanity. When it seems like most people are just keeping their heads down and going about their day, I want to shout from the rooftops "this is not okay, this is not normal, we can't wait for the mid-term elections". I'm ANGRY about what is being done to us and to our world but I'm supposed to "accept" that I'm powerless to do anything?? I shouldn't have to keep quiet about it and meditate it away.
Now I need to figure out how to channel my anger productively.
Jessica, I always look forward to your writings. Thank you for putting into words what I cannot.
Getting angry is something everyone should do on occasion. Letting it eat away at you on the other hand, is bad for you. In the military, the sergeants use anger by lying to the junior enlisted telling them that they need to be angry at the enemy for taking something from them.
I've been angry at the world and authority since I was a little kid and it didn't help me a bit. In fact, it held me back from things I could have made better decisions on.
On the other hand, I'm now using my anger in a more positive manner by writing articles and posting podcasts about the things I'm angry about. I have a long list.
Anger can be channeled, if done correctly, as pointed out here. The trouble with that, is there are very few teachers who can teach people how to channel their anger into something positive. Such as protest and related things.
Mostly what we see coming from the media, both corporate and social, is fuel for the anger fire already lit. That only takes anger beyond the logical into the emotional. But then, extreme emotions sell more things. Think about that for a minute.
Anger can make people impulse buy. Emotional anger is okay for blowing off steam but short lived, unless someone (politicians and media influencers) add fuel to the fires already burning. It's good business for them. Money or the addiction to going after more money, is the root of most of this anger in the western world nowadays. If you want to know what's wrong when people are angry, follow the money. Someone is making a financial gain from keeping people angry all the time with no resolution in sight.
Preach, sister!

Am also in St Paul MN and count me in!
As a 71 year old retired widower who is pretty much a non-consumer beyond groceries, it will take some thinking how to personally approach.
Agree with John King that NO KINGS day June 14th should make us be seen. Hopefully Indivisible will indeed lead such efforts following the 14th.
Hi Chris, I am in Duluth and have a 19 yo in St. Paul who is looking for connections with people who are angry and looking to fight back.

This column, by God, validates my every emotion for the past ten years, twenty even!
I've gotten therapy, lost friends and destroyed relationships with people whom I miss very much.
I often ask myself; if not now, when? When is the "right time" to be angry? If not now, then when? Isn't "right now" enough?
I'm not very smart. I depend on intelligent writers who give language to the things I feel in my heart.
I feel and recognize things but I struggle with a way to explain myself. Then I read something like this and say " There it is".
Thank you Jessica! Full stop 🛑

This is helpful, affirmative and inspiring. Thank you.
